A man has been arrested following the alleged stabbing of his mother and father in their Seattle-area home. In a reminder that not all domestic violence incidents and arrests occur in connection with a spousal dispute, the man has been charged with two counts of first-degree domestic violence assault for allegedly stabbing his parents. At the latest report, he was undergoing an evaluation at Whibdey General Hospital. It is not known whether the evaluation is for physical or psychiatric concerns.

According to police reports, the man was arrested late last night after one of his parents called 911 to report that they had just been stabbed. The 73-year-old father and 66-year-old mother were taken by ambulance to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle where they were both treated for stab wounds to the chest. The father was released, and the mother remains in the intensive care unit. Her current prognosis has not been reported.

When emergency responders arrived at the scene of the alleged assault, the son was still in the home. He was arrested without incident and taken to the Island County jail. However, he was later transferred to the hospital to undergo evaluation and treatment for "acute intoxication," according to Sheriff Mark Brown. It is not known whether that "intoxication" will be part of the son's defense in court.

The son was expected to make his first court appearance this afternoon, but that was postponed due to his medical condition. Sheriff Brown stated that the son's arraignment will be held after the hospital's observation period ends.
